In May 1099, the Franks of the First Crusade marched past the peaceful city towards Jerusalem. The territory belonged at that time to the Fatimiid Caliphate. The local emir offered rich compensation, the conquerors left, it seemed like all will be good. However, in May 1101, the crusaders of the Jerusalem king Baldwin I did not care about the peace agreements and took the city by storm. There was robbery, massacre - all as usual. The picture shows the southern wall of the fortress.
