Along the shores and all around of the island numerous foxholes and riflepits for 1-2 people are carved into rock. They are usually either sealed by concrete or walled with metal lids. The settlement Starhamn has been known since 1454 as a fishing village, and in 1535 the pilot post was arranged here...
