Slite town

The city was founded by Queen Christina, on the proposal of Crown Prince Carl Gustaf (future Charles X) as an alternative port of Visby, because it's fortifications become obsolete by than. On a small island in the bay entrance construction of the fortress Karlsvärds was started at these times. It was designed as a large 5-bastion fortification.
