In ancient times there was a gate in the wall with a rise to the Temple, found by Charles Warren and named after him. They say that during excavations in the 1970s, Israeli archaeologists found the walled up arch and made a small hole in the walling using sledgehammers and hammer drills, trying not to make too much noise, and moved deeper into the Temple Mount through an underground tunnel. After some time, they came across Arabs who had descended from the side of the Dome on the Rock. They say that there was a small skirmish underground with a some massacre, but it seems that no one was killed...
