King Solomon's Mines

King Solomon's Mines - Jerusalem next photo - 117 kb

Under the city wall, east of the Damascus Gate, there is an unremarkable passage under the wall. At the entrance there is a booth with a cash register, everything is as usual. Going down the concrete stairs we find ourselves in vast dungeons that stretch for hundreds meters under the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem. According to legend, stone was mined here during the time of Solomon for the construction of the first Temple. It was all right here. Muslims call these quarries Migarat al-Kitan or 'Cotton Cave' because cotton was stored here for some time for the weaving industry in the city.
