Roman cities were often designed in the manner of a military camp: the main street is Decumanos, and the second at right angles of main street is the trading Cardo street. In the picture there it is, the shopping street of the city of Elia Capitalina, passing under the Ottoman city wall. Elia Capitalina had no walls, the Romans did not need it, the surrounding Palestine land was cleared of hostile Jewish elements, and there were no Arabs here yet.
The width of the street is 22.5 m, along the edges there are two colonnades with covered walkways for pedestrians and trading places (the fragments of columns are visible on the right). Civilization, however...
