Lions on the facade of the gate

Lions on the facade of the gate - Jerusalem next photo - 88 kb

In fact, these are not lions but leopards. 4 bas-reliefs were inserted here in 1516 as a sign of the victory of the Turks over the Mamelukes. It is not known for certain where the Turks got these bas-reliefs from, perhaps from one of the buildings built during the Mameluke rule over Palestine (the leopard was the symbol of Sultan Baybars).
