The fortress was occupied of the 4th Regiment of the Arab Legion and 600 volunteers of local Arabs. During the battle 2nd regiment arrived and total there was 2300 legionnaires and + 800 irregulars. The Arabs also had a 17 APCs Marmon Harrington with 37-mm anti-tank guns, 8 87-mm howitzers, 8 57 and 16 3-dm mortars. Jews tried to menage a surprise attack, but due poor organization the attack failed, the Jews were defeated and suffered casualties (72 killed, 140 wounded by the official data). The Arabs had only 5 killed, 6 wounded.
