The walls of Masada were built of large stones without cement and could not long resist to battering-rams. Realizing that the Romans would destroy the wall soon, rebels constructed additional wooden-earthen wall at the place of future breach. Josephus wrote that it consisted of double walls with wooden beams and interior space was filled with stone and earth. Such walls could resist the battering-ram, but could not withstand against fire, so Romans quickly overcome it...
