Steam schooner Salama

Next to the fortress, on the neighboring island of Rihisaare, several museum ships are moored. In summer, you can visit them. In the photo, s/s Salama, built in Vyborg in 1874. The schooner carried cargo and passengers on the line Jyensuu-Savonlinna-Vyborg-St. Petersburg. On an autumn night in 1898, she got a hole during a collision with the steamer Ilmari in sight of Cape Puumala and sank within half an hour. Fortunately, no one died. In 1971, the schooner was raised and repaired at the local shipyard Enso-Gutzeit Ltd and transferred to the museum in 1985.
