The battery defended the entrance of Kupecheskaja (Market) harbour of Kronshtadt and intended for preventing of penetration by enemy battleships to the Kronshtadt's harbours. There were four floors with 9 and 11 inch guns in the old times, but three of them were demolished just after October 1917 revolution.
