Swedish chronicles report that in 1691 the water level in the Neva delta exceeded 7 and a half meters. The entire low-lying area of ​​the Neva delta was flooded. That was the reason that the Swedish city of Nyenschanz was founded much higher up the river at the mouth of the Okhta creek.
