Before the Crimean War, this was the main administrative center of the entire Sveaborg fortress. Behind the Commandant's House, which was twice as long as the current one, there was a huge 4-story General's House, connected to the Commandant's House by two wings. In the stormy year of 1855, during the bombardment of Sveaborg by the Allied Fleet, all this beauty disappeared in the fire, only the northern half of the Commandant's House was restored. After after this, the administrative part was moved to the island of Iso-Mustosaare, also known as Komendantsky Island, and the administration of the Engineering Department of the fortress was left here, which is why the name Engineer for this island took root among the people.
