Southern part of the Eastern wall

Townspeople began construction of fortifications from this place. They considered main treat to Visby not from alien enemies but from their own fellow countrymen farmers, fishermen, skippers - ie the rest of the population of the island of Gotland. Wall is a visual expression of the conflict between town and village.
