Jerusalem Citadel

Jerusalem Citadel - Jerusalem next photo - 89 kb

Ancient Jerusalem was surrounded on three sides by quite deep valleys and ravines, and only on the northern side was a relatively flat plain. That’s why back in the 2nd century BC during the Hasmonean dynasty, a small citadel fortress was built here. It got its current appearance under the Ottoman Turks. The picture shows a view of the Citadel with the 'Tower of David' from the outside of the fortress walls.
