Dry moat of the Citadel

From the side of the Armenian Quarter of the Okd Cioty, the Citadel is surrounded by a deep and wide dry ditch.
The Byzantines believed erroneously that the palace of the legendary King David was located here on the Western Hill and that the fortress protected the approaches to it, which is why they called one of the towers in the King David name.
