Entrenchment

From Lappeenranta to the north there is a highway along the lake isthmus to Savitaipale village and further into Finland. In the northern outskirts of the city, a well-fortified position was set up in 1940 to protect this road. All the isthmus is dug up by ditches and trenches, some of which still reach a depth of 2 meters. But almost 80 years have passed.
