
Pakhtusov, Pyotr Kuzmich (1800-1835) - geodesist, cartographer, navigator, Arctic explorer and graduate of the Navigation School, located in the Italian Palace. The monument was erected in 1886 with funds collected by Kronstadt navigators from their shore salaries. On the pedestal are the words Benefit, Courage, Labor, and the horizontal crossbar of the letter П in the word "Benefit" (Польза) is the zero or starting point of the nevelir network of the USSR according to the Baltic height system.
